The title of my blog post a video today is, the cost of speaking the truth in Britain today. In this post, I reflect on a recent incident doing the rounds on social media where a lady in the UK was arrested after saying she did not want to hear the Quran. For many of us who love our country’s Christian heritage, moments like this raise sober questions about free speech, equal treatment, and the future of public Christianity in Britain.
I discuss the clip and the wider pattern we are seeing: Christian street preachers silenced, and now ordinary people facing arrest for expressing an opinion. Whatever your view on the rights and wrongs of any individual case, it is hard to ignore the growing chill around speaking biblical truth in public.
What the Bible Says
The New Testament prepares believers for opposition and calls us to courage, grace, and unwavering faith. Here are a few key verses (NKJV):
John 15:18–19
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
2 Timothy 3:12
“Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”
Matthew 5:10–11
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.”
Acts 5:29
“We ought to obey God rather than men.”
Romans 1:16
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
This lady was arrested for saying she doesn’t want to hear anything about the Quran on the streets of England.
In all fairness none of us do.
They arrest Christian street preachers for preaching, then they arrest those opposing Islam preachers.

How Christians Can Respond
- Pray for those affected, for wisdom for the police and courts, and for genuine freedom of speech for all.
- Stand firm with grace and courage, speaking truth in love without contempt or bitterness.
- Know the Word so that when push comes to shove, we answer with scripture, humility, and conviction.
A Simple Prayer
If you are troubled by what you see in the world and long for peace with God, here is a simple prayer. If you mean it from the heart, the Lord hears:
“Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as Lord and Saviour of my life. I repent of all my sins and ask You today to take complete control of every aspect of my life. Amen.”

Final Thoughts
Britain has a rich Christian heritage. My hope and prayer is that our nation will protect genuine freedom of speech for everyone, including Christians, and that believers will continue to speak truth with boldness, humility, and love.
If you have thoughts on this, or if you prayed the prayer above and would like encouragement, please leave a comment. I’m here to help and point you to the hope we have in Jesus Christ.
