The title of my blog post is “Common Sense At Last!” The recent ruling by the UK Supreme Court on the legal definition of biological sex has stirred conversation across the country. In a world where the lines between truth and ideology are becoming increasingly blurred, this decision feels like a return to basic common sense — and, more importantly, to truth grounded in God’s Word.
In this post, we’ll explore what the court decided, why it matters, and how the Bible speaks directly to the issues of identity and creation. With Easter as the backdrop, this is also a reminder that in the midst of confusion, the gospel of Jesus Christ offers real clarity, purpose, and eternal hope.
The Ruling: Affirming Biological Reality
In a landmark decision, the UK Supreme Court ruled that under the 2010 Equality Act, the terms man and woman refer to biological sex, not self-declared gender identity. This decision, hailed by many as a victory for common sense, was welcomed by public figures like JK Rowling and others who have been outspoken on the importance of protecting women’s rights.
It is astonishing that something so foundational — that men are men and women are women — required legal clarification. Yet in today’s society, where biology is increasingly seen as subjective, such a ruling serves as both a legal and moral anchor.
The Cultural Response
The response from various institutions was telling. While many praised the clarity brought by the court, others, including Lloyds Bank, pledged support for their transgender staff, expressing disappointment at the ruling. Some public voices even portrayed the decision as a step backwards, despite its alignment with science and long-standing understanding.
Commentator David Vance summed up the surreal nature of this reaction with a single word: ‘Nurse!’ — a dry but pointed observation on how far detached some commentary has become from reality.
What Does The Bible Say?
Amid the noise of opinion and ideology, the Bible speaks clearly and consistently:
Genesis 1:27 – ‘So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.’
Genesis 5:2 – ‘He created them male and female and blessed them and called them mankind in the day they were created.’
Matthew 19:4–6 – Jesus reaffirms this truth: ‘Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female?’
Living in the Last Days?
The apostle Paul wrote a sobering warning in 2 Timothy 3:1–5 about what the last days would look like:
‘But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy…’
He continues, describing a society increasingly marked by selfishness, pride, and rebellion against God’s ways — all while maintaining a form of godliness but denying its power. It’s a passage that seems uncannily relevant to our current moment.
A Message Of Hope And Truth This Easter
Easter is a reminder that even when the world seems upside-down, there is hope. Jesus Christ came to bring light into darkness, truth into confusion, and life where there is despair. He died on a cross for our sins and rose again so that we could be set free from sin and live in the peace of God’s truth.
If you’ve been watching the changes in society and wondering what’s going on — or feeling like truth and common sense are slipping away — you’re not alone. But there is a better way. There is truth that doesn’t shift with culture, and there is a path that leads to life.
An Invitation To New Life
If you’re searching for clarity and hope, the Bible says you can find both in Jesus. He offers forgiveness, peace, and the gift of eternal life to all who turn to Him. If you’d like to make that decision, you can pray something like this:
‘Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as Lord and Saviour of my life. I repent of all my sins, and I ask You today to take over complete control of every aspect of my life. Amen.’
If you prayed that prayer sincerely, the Bible says you are born again — a new creation in Christ.
Final Thoughts
We are living in challenging times, but truth has not changed. God’s Word remains as relevant and clear as ever. This Supreme Court ruling may be a small glimmer of common sense returning, but our ultimate hope doesn’t lie in courts or culture — it lies in Christ.
May we stand firm on God’s truth, speak with love and clarity, and point others to the One who created us male and female — and who came to give us life in all its fullness.
