The title of my video and blog post is Iran, Britain and Keir Starmer. Over the past few days I have been looking at the growing tensions involving Iran, Israel, the United States, and Britain. The situation in the Middle East is never simple, and events seem to move very quickly. However, what caught my attention recently was the reaction of the British government and the headlines appearing in the UK press.
As someone who cares deeply about Britain and also views world events through the lens of scripture, I believe it is important to reflect on both the political situation and the biblical perspective. Politics alone never tells the whole story, and for Christians the Bible provides a much deeper context for understanding what is happening in the world.
Britain and the Current Middle East Situation
Looking at the headlines across several newspapers and media outlets, it is clear that there is considerable debate about Britain’s response to events involving Iran. Some commentators are questioning whether Britain is standing firmly with its allies, while others argue that caution is necessary when dealing with such a volatile region.
Historically, Britain has had a strong relationship with the United States. The two nations have often worked together during times of international conflict. Many people therefore assume that Britain will automatically stand alongside America when tensions escalate.
However, political decisions are rarely straightforward. Governments weigh many factors, including international diplomacy, domestic politics, and military considerations. As a result, disagreements between allies can sometimes occur.
What is clear, though, is that the situation involving Iran continues to be a major concern in the Middle East. Iran has long been involved in regional tensions, and the possibility of wider conflict is something many observers are watching closely.
Why Israel Is Central to the Discussion
For Christians, discussions about the Middle East often bring attention to Israel. Israel is not just another country in the region; it plays a central role in the Bible and in God’s plan as revealed through scripture.
One of the most well-known verses concerning Israel appears in the book of Genesis:
Genesis 12:3 says:
“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
This promise was given by God to Abraham, the father of the nation of Israel. Many Christians believe that this verse still carries significance today, especially when nations consider how they treat Israel.
The Bible repeatedly emphasises the importance of Israel throughout both the Old and New Testaments.
Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem
Another powerful scripture concerning Israel appears in the book of Psalms.
Psalm 122:6 says:
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May those who love you be secure.”
This verse reminds believers that prayer should always be central. While governments debate policies and nations consider military strategies, Christians are called to pray.
Prayer for the peace of Jerusalem does not simply mean praying for political stability. It also means praying for the people who live there, for wisdom among leaders, and for God’s purposes to unfold.
The Apple of God’s Eye
The prophet Zechariah also speaks about the special place Israel holds in God’s heart.
Zechariah 2:8 says:
“For whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye.”
This verse is often quoted by Christians when discussing the spiritual significance of Israel. It highlights the idea that Israel is deeply precious to God.
Throughout history, Israel has faced repeated attacks and opposition. Yet despite this, the nation continues to exist and even thrive. Many believers see this as evidence of God’s protection and faithfulness.
Has God Rejected Israel?
Some people wonder whether Israel still plays a role in God’s plan today. The Apostle Paul addressed this question directly in the New Testament.
Romans 11:1–2 says:
“Did God reject His people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham… God did not reject His people, whom He foreknew.”
This passage reminds us that God’s covenant with Israel has not been cancelled. The Bible teaches that God still has purposes for the Jewish people and the nation of Israel.
For Christians watching world events unfold, this understanding often shapes how they interpret developments in the Middle East.
Watching the News Through a Biblical Lens
In today’s world we are constantly surrounded by news updates, political arguments, and conflicting opinions. It can be difficult to know what to believe.
For believers, the Bible provides a stable foundation. Scripture encourages us not to panic when we see global tensions rising. Instead, we are called to remain watchful, prayerful, and faithful.
Jesus Himself spoke about a time when nations would be troubled and the world would experience increasing uncertainty. Yet He also reminded His followers to trust in God and remain steadfast in their faith.

The Most Important Question
While political debates and world events are important, there is an even more important question every person must consider.
That question is our relationship with God.
Christianity is not simply about politics or culture. At its heart, it is about the message of Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches that Jesus came into the world to save sinners and offer the gift of eternal life to anyone who believes in Him.
Many people struggle with the idea of believing in someone they cannot see. Yet countless Christians around the world can testify that encountering Jesus Christ changed their lives completely.
A Simple Prayer
If you are reading this and feel drawn to God, you may wish to pray a simple prayer like this:
“Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as Lord and Saviour of my life. I repent of my sins and ask You to take control of every area of my life. Thank You for dying on the cross for me and for offering me the gift of eternal life. Amen.”
If you prayed that prayer sincerely, I encourage you to begin reading the Bible, find a good church, and continue growing in your faith.
