The title of my blog post and video today is “Justin Welby vs The Bible: Who’s Right On Same-Sex Relationships?” In this post, we explore recent comments made by Justin Welby, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, regarding same-sex relationships, and compare them to what the Bible says about this important topic.
Justin Welby’s Recent Comments
Recently, Justin Welby stated that he was “thick” not to recognise that faithful and committed same-sex relationships are a huge blessing. In an interview with the Cambridge Union, he said:
“When they fall in love and when they live out that love faithfully and with stability and caring for others, it is a huge blessing for them and for society. I have seen that in so many places that in the end even I began to realise that I was being thick.”
However, as Christians, we are called to base our beliefs on what the Bible says rather than following the mainstream narrative. The Bible clearly teaches us God’s design for relationships and marriage.

What Does the Bible Say About Relationships?
The Bible gives us a clear picture of God’s plan for human relationships, starting from Genesis.
Genesis 1:27-28 (NKJV)
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
This shows God’s design for male and female to come together, be fruitful, and multiply.
Genesis 2:24 (NKJV)
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
Scriptures on Homosexual Practice
The Bible speaks clearly about homosexual practice in both the Old and New Testaments.
Leviticus 18:22 (NKJV)
“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.”
Leviticus 20:13 (NKJV)
“If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.”
Romans 1:26-27 (NKJV)
“For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another – men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NKJV)
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”
These verses show that God calls all people to repentance and offers forgiveness and transformation through Jesus Christ.
1 Timothy 1:9-10 (NKJV)
“Knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine.”
Jesus Calls Us to Love and to Sin No More
While the Bible clearly states God’s standard, it also emphasises His love and mercy. In John 8:11, Jesus says:
“Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
God gives each one of us a chance to live a righteous life. Jesus died on the cross so that we could live freely and have the wonderful gift of eternal life and so much more.
How to Receive Eternal Life
If you’re reading this and you’re not a Christian, you might wonder what this is all about. Jesus died a painful death so we could have eternal life and freedom. You can receive this free gift today, all you need to do is turn from your old ways, believe that Jesus died for you, that He rose again, and that He is living today.
If you want to become a Christian, you can pray this simple prayer:
“Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as Lord and Saviour of my life. I repent of all my sins, and I ask You today to take complete control of every aspect of my life. Amen.”
If you prayed that prayer and meant it, it means you can have that born-again spirit and start a new life with Jesus today.

Final Thoughts
Coming back to Justin Welby’s comments, I personally do not agree with what he said, as it does not line up with the Bible. As Christians, we need to go by what the Word of God says because it is the truth. The Bible is the book of life that teaches us how to live a good and honest life, and it is always so much better when we choose God’s way over the world’s way.
