The headline sounds odd at first — “Remove Dangerous British Flags!!” — but it reflects a very real story.
A Labour-run council in Birmingham has ordered Union and St George’s flags to be taken down from lamp posts after a
spontaneous, patriotic display by local residents. The council cited health-and-safety concerns, saying,
“Placing unauthorised attachments on street furniture… can be dangerous,” even when flags are fixed up to 25 feet high.
What Happened in Birmingham?
Over recent weeks, residents across Birmingham put up hundreds of Union and St George’s flags in what many described as a
refreshing show of pride. The council’s decision to remove them has sparked frustration — particularly given that other
national displays have been celebrated publicly in the city.
Public Response
- Lee Anderson called the removals “a disgrace,” urging that we should fly our flags with pride.
- David Vance highlighted how major buildings can be lit up for other national celebrations while British flags are removed.
- Rupert Lowe argued that Birmingham City Council should focus on its responsibilities at home and respect English civic identity.

that lights up major buildings to celebrate Pakistan Independence Day today? https://t.co/cADvE1SJpX— David Vance (@DVATW) August 14, 2025
Why It Matters: Foundations Still Count
The United Kingdom prospered when its life and laws aligned closely with solid, biblical principles. Even people who
don’t personally believe the Bible often acknowledge that those principles — honesty, fairness, covenant-keeping,
neighbour-love — work. When a nation forgets the moral foundations that made it trustworthy and strong, drift and division follow.

Scriptures for the Nation (NKJV)
- Psalm 33:12 — “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”
- Proverbs 14:34 — “Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.”
- Deuteronomy 8:11–14 — “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments…
when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.” - 2 Chronicles 7:14 — “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face,
and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” - Jeremiah 6:16 — “Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is,
And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls.’”
A Simple Prayer
If you’re concerned about the direction of our nation and want to start with your own heart, here is a simple prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as Lord and Saviour of my life. I repent of all my sins and I ask You today to take complete
control of every aspect of my life. Amen.
Final Thoughts
British identity and Christian virtue are not enemies. When righteousness and truth shape public life, nations flourish.
Let’s honour what’s good in our heritage, stand for what is right, and keep calling the UK back to the Lord — the true foundation
of any nation.
