The title of my blog post and video today is, the end of the Church of England? In this post, I respond to the news of a new female Archbishop of Canterbury and the direction of the Church of England. This is not about personalities. It is about the authority of Scripture and what happens when any church drifts from God’s Word toward cultural trends.
What has happened
Reports and commentary highlight positions associated with the new Archbishop that include support for same-sex blessings within the Church of England, public statements on political issues, and stances on ethical questions such as assisted dying. Many Christians in the UK are asking an honest question: is the Church moving away from biblical teaching in order to align with the culture?
Why it matters
If the church redefines sin or treats Scripture as optional, it confuses the Gospel and misleads people who are seeking truth. The New Testament consistently calls believers to holiness, repentance, and obedience. God’s blessing rests on submission to His Word, not on reshaping His Word to please people.
Key concerns being raised
- Doctrine and holiness: The blessing of what Scripture calls sin undermines repentance and the new life in Christ.
- Authority of Scripture: When opinion overtakes the Bible, the church loses its compass.
- Witness to the nation: A compromised church cannot offer a clear call to salvation, hope, and transformation.
This is deeply alarming, the antisemitism on display here is revolting. https://t.co/1SoyDqhZ1u

What the Bible says about sin and blessing
The exact phrase “God cannot bless sin” does not appear verbatim, but the teaching is clear throughout the New Testament. Here are representative verses from the NKJV:
Romans 6:1–2
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”
Grace is not permission to sin. Those who belong to Christ turn from it.
1 John 3:8–9
“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”
Christ came to destroy the works of the devil, not to bless them.
Galatians 6:7–8
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
Sowing to the flesh brings corruption, not blessing.
Ephesians 5:5–7
“For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.”
James 1:13–15
“Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”
2 Corinthians 6:14–17
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? … ‘Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.’”
How Christians should respond
- Hold fast to Scripture: Read, study, and obey the Word of God. Truth does not change with culture.
- Speak the truth in love: Boldness and compassion belong together. We oppose sin while loving people.
- Pray for leaders and the nation: Pray for repentance, renewal, and courage to stand on the Bible.
- Live distinctively: Let holiness, humility, and the fruit of the Spirit be our public witness.
A simple prayer of repentance and faith
Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as Lord and Saviour of my life. I repent of my sins and ask You today to take complete control of every part of my life. Thank You for dying for me and rising again. Help me to follow You and to love Your Word. Amen.
