In this post, I respond to a video clip that inspired the title “They Hate Democracy”. In the clip, a commentator describes how some groups who claim to “stand up to racism” refused to speak with a Black woman who simply wanted a conversation. Whatever one’s politics, that kind of closed-door attitude to dialogue is troubling. If we care about a healthy society, we must be willing to talk, listen, and reason together.
The speaker also urges people to attend a march on the 13th in central London. Whether or not you agree with every point raised, the underlying issue remains: will we allow open discussion, or will we silence those we disagree with? Recent stories suggest many are feeling the squeeze on basic freedoms.
When Debate Is Shut Down
We’ve seen a wave of headlines and social posts that raise questions about how dissenting views are treated in the public square. I’ve covered related issues here on the site, including:

A Christian Response: Stand for Truth
As a Christian, I believe truth is not relative. Truth is ultimately found in Jesus Christ. When we anchor our lives in Him, we find the freedom and courage to speak the truth in love—not with rage, but with conviction.
Scriptures (NKJV)
John 8:31–32
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
2 Timothy 2:15
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
3 John 1:4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
What This Means Practically
- Choose dialogue over dismissal. If we disagree, let’s talk. Closing down discussion helps no one.
- Test everything against Scripture. Christians aren’t guided by headlines but by God’s Word.
- Stand firm, speak gently. Boldness and kindness are not opposites; they belong together.
The Greatest Freedom
If you’re not a Christian, I invite you to consider the freedom that comes from knowing Jesus—the Truth who sets us free. He died and rose again so we can have eternal life and peace with God. If you’d like to begin that journey, you can pray sincerely:
Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as Lord and Saviour of my life. I repent of all my sins and I ask You today to take over complete control of every aspect of my life. Amen.
