Welcome to today’s Christian devotional from A Countryman’s View. The title of my blog post and video today is, What’s your verse for today? In this reflection, I want to encourage you to think about one simple but powerful question: “What really is your verse for today?”
Inspired by Pastor Tim Burt
Recently, I was in conversation with Pastor Tim Burt, a retired pastor who has taken his ministry online. You can visit his website at timburt.org. Pastor Tim is the author of Fresh Manna, a daily Bible devotional that has been read in over 229 countries and territories worldwide. It’s amazing to think that God’s Word has reached so many people through one man’s obedience.
During our conversation, Pastor Tim highlighted the importance of remembering what we read in the Bible each day. He shared that many believers read Scripture in the morning but later can’t recall what they studied. His advice is simple: always choose a verse to carry with you throughout the day.
Why Choose a Daily Verse?
Carrying a verse helps us in two key ways:
- Memory and reflection – focusing on one verse enables us to meditate on it and remember it more clearly.
- Spiritual growth – God can use that verse to speak into our day, guide us, and draw us closer to Him.
For example, one of the most well-known passages is Psalm 23. You might choose:
- “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)
- “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” (Psalm 23:6)
These verses are short, simple, and powerful. Carrying them with you throughout the day is a great way to strengthen your walk with God.
How to Find Your Verse for Today
You might be wondering how to find your daily verse. Here are a few ideas:
- Read a devotional by Christian teachers such as Andrew Wommack, Joyce Meyer, Angus Buchan, Smith Wigglesworth, or John Hagee.
- Follow a structured Bible reading plan, such as “The Bible in One Year.”
- Open the Bible and allow the Holy Spirit to highlight a verse for you.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. The key is to be intentional and consistent. Even one verse can have a big impact if you meditate on it throughout your day.
Closing Encouragement
Today, my verse is: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1). That’s a truth I can carry with me as a reminder of God’s provision and care. What’s your verse for today?
If this devotional encouraged you, I’d love to hear from you in the comments below. Share the verse that you’re holding onto today—it may encourage someone else.
Have a great day, keep the faith, and drop any fear.
