The Church Of England Needs To Turn To God

The title on my thumbnail today reads, “The Church of England needs to turn to God”. Today I want to discuss an important topic following an article in The Times titled, “Only turning to God can make the Church of England relevant.” This may sound strange at first – a church needing to turn to God – but sadly, this is the reality we see today.

The Church Losing Its Way

The article explains how, for too long, senior clerics have lacked confidence in their religious convictions. As a result, congregations have fallen away. Many churches today seem to focus more on politics and social causes than on preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

Just a few weeks ago, I made a video talking about how UK church attendance is rising again, especially among younger people. There is a hunger for truth, but sadly, many churches are not preaching the pure gospel that changes lives. Coffee mornings and community events have their place, but they do not replace the need to preach God’s Word.

The Pandemic Response

The Times article highlights how the Church of England misjudged the pandemic moment. At a time when people were searching for hope and comfort, churches locked their doors. Even private prayer was not allowed, and funerals could not be held in church buildings.

The Prime Minister may have announced the closure, but archbishops and bishops urged clergy to comply. I personally believe churches,  which includes the Church Of England, should have stayed open. Jesus is our healer. I have seen people healed through prayer. We do not need to live in fear.

Standing on Psalm 91

During Covid, many Christians were worried. I stood on Psalm 91, which says:

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”

This psalm reminds us of God’s protection and faithfulness. We must trust Him in all situations.

Churches Focused on Politics Instead of Jesus

The article also mentions how the Church of England supports various political causes, such as Black Lives Matter, creating an anti-racism task force, and pledging £100 million towards slavery reparations. While social justice has its place, the gospel must come first. Without preaching Jesus, lives are not changed for eternity.

When churches adopt woke values over biblical truth, they become like any other institution – universities, museums, galleries – simply trying to remain relevant without offering true hope.

Scriptures That Remind Us to Turn to God

Here are some key scriptures I shared in my video:

  • John 14:6 – Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Christ alone is the way to God, not rituals or institutions.
  • Hebrews 12:2 – Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. We must keep our eyes on Him, whatever trials come.
  • Matthew 11:28-30 – Jesus invites all who are weary and burdened to come to Him for rest. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.
  • Philippians 4:6-7 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
  • 2 Timothy 1:7 – God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. We can stand strong in Him without fear.

Personal Reflection

Before I became a Christian, I didn’t have the hope I have today. Accepting Jesus into my life changed everything. When we say yes to Him, His Holy Spirit comes and lives within us, giving us power and strength to walk in His ways.

Sadly, it seems that the Church of England does not understand this fully. It is not about rituals or tradition; it is about knowing Jesus personally. This is why I believe young people are returning to church. They see the lies of worldly systems and governments and realise there must be more to life. Jesus offers eternal life – something no political movement or government can offer.

A Prayer of Salvation

If you are not yet a Christian and would like to know Jesus personally, here is a simple prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as Lord and Saviour of my life. I repent of all my sins. I ask You today to take complete control of every aspect of my life. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer sincerely, you now have the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. His Holy Spirit will come and live in you, giving you strength and peace that the world cannot give.
