The title on my thumbnail today is, Badgers Before Babies – A Biblical Response To UK Abortion Law It’s hard to believe that in the United Kingdom, badgers are legally protected, yet unborn babies can now be aborted up to the moment of birth. That’s the disturbing reality we’re facing — and it’s one that’s been quietly introduced without much public awareness or media coverage.
In this post, I want to take a look at what’s going on, share some of the comments from others who have spoken out, and most importantly, reflect on what the Bible says about the value of life.
What’s Happening In The UK?
The recent changes to UK law have effectively decriminalised abortion right up to birth. While we were once shocked by the idea of abortion beyond 24 weeks, we now find ourselves in a place where a baby can be aborted moments before they would otherwise be born alive. Meanwhile, harming a badger can land someone in serious legal trouble.
Paul Golding summed it up well:
“In the UK, it is illegal to kill a badger but legal to kill a 9-month-old baby. Let that sink in.”
Reverend Brett Murphy commented on this too, citing Proverbs 6:17 and saying: “God hates the UK government.”
What Does The Bible Say?
The Bible makes it very clear that God values life. Proverbs 6 lists the things the Lord hates, and among them are:
“Hands that shed innocent blood.”
Other scriptures speak just as powerfully:
- Genesis 1:27–28 – God created us in His image, male and female, and told us to be fruitful and multiply.
- Psalm 119:73 – “Your hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.”
- Psalm 139:13–16 – “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb… I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
These verses leave no doubt that life begins in the womb and that it is God Himself who forms and values each individual life.
Where Is The Church?
One of the more concerning aspects of this issue is the silence of the Church. The Church Times reported that a spokesperson from Church House Westminster said women shouldn’t be criminalised for having an abortion, but also admitted that the legal change could lead to more late-term abortions.
David Vance made a sharp observation, commenting on the church’s reluctance to preach biblical truth:
“Preaching truth to power would be fair — if they’re not preaching biblical truth, I don’t think they’re going to see a lot of power.”
A Message Of Hope
Despite how heavy this subject is, I always want to point people back to the hope we have in Jesus Christ. Jesus came to give life — and life more abundantly. He offers us forgiveness, freedom, and a new beginning, no matter our past.
If you’re not a Christian, but you’re seeking truth and hope, I’d like to invite you to pray this simple prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus,
I acknowledge You as Lord and Saviour of my life.
I repent of all my sins, and I ask You today to take over complete control of every aspect of my life.
Amen.
If you’ve said that prayer and meant it, you’ve taken the first step in receiving the gift of eternal life that Jesus offers.

Final Thoughts
I never thought I’d be saying this — but in 2025, it seems badgers have more rights than babies in Britain. It’s unthinkable. And while we should care for animals, human life is sacred. Each of us has a soul, and for those who know Christ, we have the promise of eternal life.

God bless,
