Today I would like to talk about walking in the light! I’m just referring to the Scripture from Ephesians 5, starting in chapter 8. Recently, we came back from Greece, and we were privileged to be able to go to quite a few places and travel around. One particulate place that we went to by road, we drove through 50 tunnels to get to our destination. The tunnels had been created to almost create a straight road through the mountains. Light At The End Of The Tunnel
Some of the tunnels we went through were very short and you could see light immediately. The other tunnels were up to around 3.8 km, which I guess is around 3 miles long; we couldn’t see light at the end of the tunnel! As we were driving through the long tunnels, we kept looking to see that first bit of light shining through.
This reminded me of how before I became born-again, I was walking in darkness, but when I became born-again, I could see the light! Big time! We need to be the light of the world and to see the captives set free. We need to be a light in the workplace or wherever we go.
Ephesians 5
Let’s come back to the Scripture, which is Ephesians 5, verse 8, through to verse 14.
“8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the [b]Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather [c]expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are [d]exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:
“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”
Let’s Be The Light
Let’s have another look at the Scripture and break it down. I was once walking in darkness and before I knew Jesus, the scriptures just did not mean anything. I did not understand the Christian life, since I hadn’t had that born-again spirit, come, and live inside of me. However, once I had that born-again spirit come and live inside of me. I started to see that wonderful gospel truth that comes and lives within and sets us free. I do try and be a light to those around me, it doesn’t always work, but that is my aim. It is something that I believe that we should all strive for. As it says, walk as children of light.
We need to be children of light. Where I live, there aren’t particularly many Christians and that probably goes for the rest of the UK. I do believe that there are more Christians in the US, but maybe even that is changing. However, I also know that many good things are happening!
It goes on to say that the fruit of the spirit is all goodness, righteousness and truth; the fruits of the spirit can be found in Galatians 5.
