I thought today that I would read from Hebrews 4:12. It talks about how to be sharper than any two-edged sword, which sounds quite remarkable. However, from being an unbeliever to a Christian, I know that the word of God can turn things around and that we can become sharper than any two-edged sword.
So, let’s have a look at the verse in Hebrews 4:12, which reads.
“12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
One of the many things that I like about the word of God is that it brings life. Especially when we look at the New Testament, there are chapters like Psalm 91, for example. Now I appreciate that the Psalms are not in the New Testament; however, I have read verses in the Bible many times over. The good news is that the anointed word of God never runs dry, it’s like living water. It’s continually changing us.
I Am Not An Academic
I remember as a new Christian, I was very eager to learn more about the word of God. I’m not an academic, I’m someone who loves the countryside, agriculture horticulture and things that I connected with the countryside. It is something I have worked in and been connected with all my working life. And something that I have had an interest in all my life.
So, I may not be an academic, but the word of God can make you sharper than a two-edged sword! So we have to remember that the word of God is powerful, it can change us when we have faith in God. The word can sharpen us, so much so that we can be sharper than a double-edged sword. I’ve had times when the Holy Spirit has been on me when I am talking to a nonbeliever. Maybe we don’t know exactly what to say, but I have felt the Holy Spirit guide me, with the right words.
Galatians 5
The verse goes on to say, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit. So, we may not be sure what to say, but the spirit can bring the right things to say and help us reach the other person. It never fails to amaze me what the spirit of God can do to someone who is yielded to Christ. It goes on to say that it is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. It really is such an amazing and wonderful thing when we are led by the spirit of God.
Go to the next script, which is Galatians 5:16, it reads.
“16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
So when we are in the spirit, we are not thinking about the flesh, which is great. We want to do away with the flesh and be spirit-minded and Christ-like.
Then if we go to verses 22- 25 in Galatians 5, we read the following.
“22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [g]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
